Koh Phangan’s Affordable Yoga Retreats

Koh Phangan is home to many Yoga retreats and many at very affordable prices for even the most budget minded Yoga-goer.

The little island off the coast of Thailand, one stop after Koh Samui first got it’s name for the “Full Moon Parties” which no doubt most looking for relaxing Yoga and wellness holidays should steer well clear. However Koh Phangan is an island you should certainly still look into because it has many retreats for Yoga, detoxing and more at cheaper prices than most other places in Thailand.

What’s more Koh Phangan is much more than just a party island. In fact most of the party-goers stay on Koh Samui and only come to Koh Phangan once per month for the full moon. Aside from that Koh Phangan is actually very quiet and peaceful, it is the perfect location to practice Yoga and detox while simply avoiding Haad Rin beach (party beach in Koh Phangan) and you should be just fine.

Here are some of the affordable Yoga retreats in Koh Phangan, Thailand and some videos of what they are like.

Koh Phangan is actually one of the better places in my experience for doing Yoga retreats in Thailand. It has a variety of different resorts and retreats located all over the island which specialize in Yoga and also Pilates.

Many new ones have opened up to deal with the massive surge in tourism across Thailand as a whole and now with the upcoming cuts in travel prices to Thailand it looks like tourism will surge once more again.

I choose this island because unlike Koh Samui which is the next island over it is actually not packed with silly kids looking to party.

It is a bit like the Iceland-Greenland situation. People think that Koh Phangan is the “party” place and Koh Samui is the relaxing place… errr no — it’s the other way round!

It’s not that affordable to do a retreat in Koh Phangan anymore. Most are heading to India which is both where the yoga comes from and also has much cheaper yoga ashrams which are generally organic are far more inline with the real yoga culture.

In Thailand the yoga is for people who don’t know anything about it and are little concerned about the philosophy or more importantly the lifestyle and are jus looking to lose weight and look good. That’s been my experience anyway, but don’t let me put you off Koh Phangan for your vacation because I have not been to Thailand for many years now but again that has been my experience.
