I did a yoga teacher training Ashram in India at a what is known as one of the best retreats Kerala and had a wonderful time. I will say it was a little expensive however and having traveled to India for my yoga holiday this time around I would go to a smaller ashram where the prices are more affordable and the yoga classes are at a more manageable size.

Overall India is definitely the place for teacher training in my opinion because it is where yoga comes from and there are the best yoga teachers in the world in India, specifically Mysore and Kerala areas. However like I said there are many much more affordable ashrams where you can get certified and pay substantially less and get just as much value or more.

If you are interested in any yoga information about Mysore or other places around Kerala reply to my comment and I can get answer questions. I’m not an expert per se, but I have spent over 6 months practicing yoga in India.

Wow, monster post, it will take me some time to go through it all. I’m planning on doing a three month vacation in India for Yoga I’m a beginner but hope to build up in the first 2 months and it would be great to leave with a solid certification under my belt. If anyone knows of a specific ashram which they voice for then a review of that specifically would be very helpful.

    Thanks in advance!

The main Mysore institute is of course the place to go if you want to master Ashtanga I believe in fact, that it is the only place in the world where you can get officially Ashtanga certified. If however you are looking more for just a yoga holiday in India then there are nay number of places where you can go to do that. In fact I recommend that you go to North india provided the weather is good — don’t go in the winter months! — and then you can get a more fuller experience at the bottom of the Himalaya mountains.
